Local routes

Five leisure routes from Mole Valley Family Cycle Days:
A ride around the eastern boundary of Mole Valley (36 miles, or 14 mile shorter ride)
A ride around the western boundary of Mole Valley (40 miles, or 17 mile shorter ride)
A tour of little villages in Mole Valley (27 miles, or 16 mile shorter ride)
The Surrey County Council website Get Cycling in Surrey page lists a number of routes, and associated information. Part of the Surrey Cycleway lies in Mole Valley. The Rural Ways Cycle Route is mainly in Mole Valley, and downloadable maps and other information are available on the website.

Online Route Planners

The Bikehike website allows a course to be plotted on Google and Ordnance Survey maps simultaneously, with auto routing (on roads) on the Google map. Upload and download of routes to and from GPS units is supported.
The CycleStreets website has a country-wide (and more) cycle journey planner, providing a choice of three routes for any journey - fastest, quietest and 'balanced'.
The Sustrans interactive map also provides a country-wide cycle journey planner, highlighting local amenities and attractions.

 

Local cycle maps

Surrey Cycle Guides. A set of eight maps covering the whole of Surrey, showing recommended cycle routes and locations of cycling facilities, published by Surrey County Council. Mole Valley is covered by guides 3, 5 and 7. The Forum has reservations about the safety of some of the facilities shown. Available from cycle shops and the information desk in the Dorking Halls, but some are now out of print. All the routes are also shown on the Surrey Interactive Map.
Oaktree Routes (phone 01483 747175) showing bridleways, footpaths and quiet roads. Four A4 laminated maps in the series cover an area from Newlands Corner to Box Hill in the North to Blackheath and Leith Hill in the south - available from Surrey Hills Cycleworks and good booksellers.
Redlands Routes - a map of the new off-road trails in the Redlands area of Leith Hill. Available from the information desk in the Dorking Halls and Nirvana Bike Shop in Westcott.

Local Trains

Services are provided by Southern (S), South Western Railway (SW) and Great Western Railway (GWR). Trains are of the modern sliding-door type and the train operators allow a limited number of bikes to be taken on most services free of charge. However, the following restrictions apply to peak trains to and from London:
S: cycles are not permitted on peak trains travelling towards London on Mondays to Fridays which are timed to arrive between 07:00 and 10:00 and trains timed to depart London between 16:00 and 17:00 Mondays to Fridays.
SW: cycles may not be carried on trains due to arrive London Waterloo between 07:15 and 10:00, or depart London Waterloo between 16:45 and 19:00 Mondays to Fridays. Folding cycles are carried providing they fold small enough to be carried in the luggage racks.

There are ten railway stations in Mole Valley, of which three are in Dorking. There is provision for cycle parking at all stations. This is mainly of the Sheffield Stand type (2 spaces per stand):
